Constructed wetlands can be used in different areas, for different purposes. The systems have been tested for onsite residential wastewater treatment, wastewater systems for small communities, businesses such as truckstops and rest areas. Constructed wetlands have also been used to treat stormwater runoff for both urban and agricultural areas. Other areas suggested for testing include treatment of landfill leachate and runoff at zoos.
